Killing the Warriors of the Jews of Bani Quraidhah Some people like to arouse suspicions about the verdict of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) regarding killing the warriors of the Jews of Bani Quraidhah after Allah Al-Mighty had rescued him from the confederates who attacked Al-Madinah. Subjectivity and justice necessitate that we don't look into any verdict separately from its considerations and causes. It is well known that any court that issues a verdict does so interceding such verdict with its considerations and findings, so let's get acquainted with the considerations and findings of such prophetic verdict of killing the warriors of Bani Quraidhah so that we can detect the truth. First: One of the first things that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) had done upon arriving at Madinah which had majority of Muslims was concluding a treaty with Jewish minority living there, such treaty stipulated two main articles: The peaceful coexistence between the Muslims & Jews and the mutual co-operation between them and their non attacking each another. The mutual defense of Madinah against any threat that might endanger it. Second: During the fifth year of Hijrah the polytheists had assembled their supporters from every tribe and established an army of ten thousand warriors. Such army headed for Madinah having only one motive; that of exterminating Allah's Messenger (PBUH), his followers and his call once and for all. In an attempt to achieve the utmost success in their endeavor they contacted the Jews of Bani Quraidhah who were inside Madinah and told them that they would attack the Muslims from outside and the Jews would attack them from inside Madinah, so together they would eradicate Islam and its people falling between the hammer and the anvil. The Jews admired such plan and saw in it a one time opportunity to destroy and eradicate Islam and its followers and so they accepted to breach their treaty with Muslims and cooperate with the enemy. Third: When Allah's Messenger (PBUH) and the Muslims knew of the Jew's breach of the treaty they were very worried. They had dug a trench around Madinah which enabled them to stay steadfast under siege anticipating what the enemy will do to them. Allah the Almighty sent a strong wind which dispersed the polytheists and ruined their plans so they were forced to retreat and Allah (the Almighty) had eternized the description of the status of the panic and fear that hit Muslims in the Holy Quran that will be recited till judgment day: " O you who have believed, remember the favor of Allah upon you as hosts came against you; then We sent against them a wind and hosts you did not see; and Allah has been Ever-Beholding whatever you do. As they came against you from above you and from below you, and as beholdings swerved and hearts reached to the larynxes; and you surmised vain surmises about Allah. Thereover were the believers tried, and were made to quake with a severe earthquake." (Al-Ahzab : 9,10,11). Fourth: When the confederates were defeated and retreated from Madinah it was a necessity to punish the Jewish traitors who instead of joining the Muslims in defending Madinah as was stipulated in the treaty, they joined forces with the enemy. Allah's Messenger (PBUH) dashed through with his army and besieged the Jews for almost one month. Allah (the Almighty) struck them with fear so they surrendered and accepted the judgment of Saad ibn Mo'ath who was once their ally before Islam and who was defending them before such incident. So, Saad took the oath of both parties to accept his verdict and they all did. So, Saad ruling was to kill the Jews warriors and capture their children and wealth and Allah's Messenger (PBUH) approved such decree. So after having clarified the Jews betrayal, what can possibly be taken against Allah's Messenger (PBUH)? Such a betrayal, which was not aimed against a person or a group but rather aiming at eradicating a whole nation. To this date in the twenty first century betrayal of one's country is punished by execution. |
