A New Testament scholars, specializing in the early period of Christianity. He received a master's and doctorate in philosophy degree in theology from Princeton Theological Seminary where he studied education at the hands of the mark Bruce Metzge
He is currently working as dean of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was dean of the south-eastern region of the Assembly of Bible literature, and served as editor for a number of bulletins Assembly and is now co-author of a series of articles and studies the New Testament
