Andy Mendelsohn Outlines How Oracle® Database 11g Release 2 Can Help Customers Lower IT Costs

Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, Calif. – October 13, 2009
    News Facts

During an Oracle® OpenWorld 2009 general presentation, Andy Mendelsohn, senior vice president of Database Server Technologies, Oracle, focused on how customers can lower their IT costs with Oracle Database 11g Release 2.
With Oracle Database 11g Release 2 and Oracle Real Application Clusters, organizations can help reduce server costs up to 5x by virtualizing low cost servers into a shared resource. Oracle Real Application Clusters now features server pooling and grid plug-and-play capabilities that enable customers to lower their server costs by simplifying the management and provisioning of consolidated database grids.
Organizations can also gain efficiencies by implementing a storage grid. Oracle Database 11g Release 2 along with the Advanced Compression and Partitioning options helps support lower storage costs by compressing data 2-4x and easing the use of lower cost storage tiers.
This latest release further extends the capability of Oracle Automatic Storage Management to manage not only the data and the disks under a database, but also to manage the storage under file systems. Oracle Database 11g Release 2 introduced a general-purpose cluster file system as well as database capabilities to help lower the cost of managing their storage.
Product management executives from both Oracle’s PeopleSoft Enterprise and Oracle’s Siebel CRM joined Mendelsohn on stage to discuss their respective initiatives to take advantage of Oracle Active Data Guard option to offload reporting from production to standby systems as well as Oracle Database 11g Release 2’s Edition-based Redefinition online application upgrade feature.
The latest generation of the world’s #1 database was released on September 1, 2009 (read news release).
