The Third Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment of Brook Park Ohio has lost 49 servicemen, all killed in Iraq - 47 of them since March 2005. Outside a recent memorial service stood Fred Phelps and five members of his clan holding signs which read "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" and "Don't Worship the Dead." Phelps claims God killed the Marines to punish the United States for allowing homosexuals in the military.
Phelps, 52, the pastor of Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, is infamous for picketing the funerals of gay men.
