    بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
    السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Q: Can someone with a disability still do thing

Having a disability can mean extra challenges and sometime difficulties to overcome but people who have a disability can also have joys and achievements as other people

Having a disability means that a person is not able to do something that other people of their age can do because of something about their body. For example, someone who has asthma may not be able to play a full game of basketball, or someone who has a vision problem cannot read the magazines that their friends are reading.

A person can have a disability because of something to do with his or her legs or arms, or brain, or ears, or any other part of their body.

Q: What are their rights as a disabled person

Many countries have special laws to protect people with disabilities and to make sure that they can take part in the community as equal members of society. Check what the local laws are to see what they can do for people who have disabilities.

Being treated unfairly is called discrimination. If a person has a disability and feels that he or she is being treated unfairly, it could be discrimination.

People with a disability have the right:

    • To be respected, to be treated as a human being.
    • To have the same basic rights as other members of the community.
    • To have opportunities to learn and grow to their potential (what they are able to be).
    • To have a reasonable quality of life similar to other people in the community.
    • To be involved in making decisions those affect their life.
    • To receive support when needed but not to the extent that it takes away their freedom.

Q: What about the effects on their family

Sometimes family members, especially parents, try to make all the decisions for the child with a disability. This child may feel that their parents are over-protective and worry too much when he or she wants to try something new. Parents may worry that if their child does try something new, there may be at risk, he or she might get hurt, or someone may treat him or her badly.

Q: What about the effect on their friends

Many people find it hard to make good friends, even those who do not have a disability. People who do have a disability can find it even harder to make close friends. That does not mean it’s impossible. It may mean looking for the right groups and working harder at it then others have to. It’s important to keep on trying if the first group doesn’t work.

Q: What about there brothers and sisters

Brothers or sisters of someone with a disability may find they have very strong feelings about their siblings, and about how he or she is treated.
If a brother or sister with a disability is taking a lot of the parents time the other siblings may feel left our or jealous at times.

The others siblings may get angry with other people if they tease brothers or sister with a disability.

The other siblings may feel worried about their brother or sister’s health and what will happen to him or her

They could feel guilty at times if they want to do something for themselves, such as time alone or going out with friends instead of helping out.

Siblings should talk to their parents about it, if they don’t feel they can talk to their parents, maybe they should try speaking to another relatives or adult family friend who can speaking to another relative or adult family friend who can talk to their parents either with them or on their behalf.

All brothers and sisters, including those who have siblings with disabilities, sometimes want time out either on here own or to have of their parents to themselves. Young people should talk to their parents and see if this can be arranged, even it it’s just at rare times.

Q: What can a person with a disability do if someone teases or bullies him or her

It often happens that a person with a disability is teased or bullied, or maybe their brother or sister is being teased or bullied. even if the one begin bullied knows that the people doing the teasing or bullying are trying to hide their own problems by making someone else feel upset, it can still hurt here are some ideas of things to do:
The one begin bullied can walk away and remind themselves that the bullies are trying to get reaction. If there’s no reaction the bullies will get bored of the game and fairly quickly. The bullies could be asked if they understand what they are saying. For example if they call someone’s brother or sister (who has a disability) a “spastic”; they can be asked if they know what that means the bullies will probably become embarrassed in front of their friends because they didn’t expect that response.
