The Passion Week or the holy week is a term related to the last six days that Jesus spent in Jerusalem. Its stretches from Sunday the 10th of April to Friday the 15th of April as it are the first day of the Jewish festival Passover. In the evening of the day before the festival on Thursday the 14th of April, Jewish would eat ritual supper in their houses called the Passover supper. So what Jesus did in these six days that end in his death on the cross? The four gospels are not in agreement with regard to the events take place in that period. The Gospel of John testimony opposes the testimony of the other three Synoptic Gospels. In the following lines of this article, I will exhibit the narratives of the four Gospels and compare between them and reach likely outcome about what happened particularly with regard to the Day of the Last Supper and the day of the crucifixion, as for those dates of the impact on the Christian faith. The Gospel according to John narratives: Jesus procession arrived to the surroundings of Jerusalem on Sunday 10th of April. His arrival was late in the day because he stopped in Bethany for the rest of the night. The host family prepared supper for him in the evening. And while Martha serve the dinner and Lazarus was reclining on the table with him, Martha sister who called Merry pour expensive perfume and wiped his feet with her hair to the end of the story we know in the Gospel according to John Chapter 12. Next day in the morning dated April 13, Jesus procession enter Jerusalem and he was teaching in the temple, and in the evening he went back to Bethany (John 12: 20-49). The Author of the Gospel according to John never told us what Jesus did after his return to Bethany from Jerusalem expect his meeting with the twelve disciples in the evening of Wednesday April 14th for the last supper meal, so likely he stayed in Bethany Tuesday and before noon on Wednesday. Late on Wednesday evening after the last supper when Jesus was captured and taken to the house of the high priest for questioning and collecting testimonies against him, and he was taken when the sun rises to the governor palace Pontius Pilate for the formal trial, which ended with his conviction and crucifixion at noon on Thursday, April 14, and Easter pause. The schedule becomes the Holy Week in the following form: -Sunday 10th of April Stayed in Bethany Jesus anointed by Martha sister pouring expensive perfume on him -Monday 11th of April Jesus entry to Jerusalem, teaching in the temple, stayed in Bethany -Tuesday 12th of April Stayed in Bethany -Wednesday 13th of April Stayed in Bethany, the last supper, Jesus questioning -Thursday 14th of April Tribunal, crucifixion, burial -Friday 15th of April Jesus in the tomb since yesterday (Thursday) The Gospel according to Mark narratives: Jesus arrived into Jerusalem from Jericho in the Jordan Valley in Sunday noon 10th of April without stopping in Bethany, And just went right away to temple where with his disciples toured its building. But since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve (Mark 11:11). Next day in the morning Monday 11th of April, he went back to Jerusalem, enter the temple and he drive out those who were buying and selling there and overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him. And When evening came, Jesus and his disciples went out of the city and spend the night in Bethany (Mark 11:12-19). In the third day, Tuesday 13th of April, Jesus went back to Jerusalem and he was teaching in the temple, debating with the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders as they hoped to catch Jesus in something he said. And when the evening came, he left the temple and never come back (Mark 11:15-33, 12: 1-44, 13: 1-37). On Wednesday Jesus remained in Bethany. feast prepared in the evening for him in the house of Simon the leper, when unidentified woman entered the house with alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard and poured the perfume on Jesus head (Mark 14: 3-11). And in Thursday noon, he left Bethany to eat the Passover meal with his disciples in Jerusalem and he never went back to Bethany. He was arrested after the supper and taken to the house of the high priest. On Friday as the first day of Easter, he was tried and crucified. And Mark's timetable becomes as follow: -Sunday Arrive at Jerusalem, tour in the temple, staying in Bethany -Monday Riots toke place in the temple, teaching, stay in Bethany -Tuesday Teach in the temple, stay in Bethany -Wednesday Stay in Bethany, evening meal, pouring the perfume -Thursday Stay in Bethany Passover meal in Jerusalem, the interrogation -Friday Trail, crucifixion, the burial The Gospel according to Luke narratives: Luke also put the riot incidents in the temple in the first day of Jesus arrival to Jerusalem which was 10th of April. And then he move to say “(45) when Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling.
