Dr. Zakir Naik answers the following question: “Is it permitted in Islam for a male or female Muslim to donate blood to a Muslim or non-Muslim?”According to Dr. Zakir, as far as blood donation is concerned, if blood donation to the recipient is a must, blood donation is then permitted provided that the donor is healthy enough and does not donate a large quantity, and donation will bring major benefit to the recipient, does not lead to the loss of the donor’s life and is not made for money. As for the question whether a Muslim can donate blood to a non-Muslim, Dr. Zakir believes that it is permissible to donate blood to anybody, be he a Muslim or non-Muslim, for such donation involves saving the life of a human being. He cites a verse in the Qur’an (Al-Ma’idah 5:32) in support of his opinion.
