Prayer:
Prayer in Islam is one of the most beautiful acts of worship one can perform. A Muslim is required to pray five times a day. These prayers are a time when a person puts his life on hold to connect and converse with his Creator. When a Muslim begins the prayer they start by raising their hands to their shoulders and announcing “Allahu Akbar”, saying outloud that Allah is Greater, or the Greatest. With that reminder, a Muslim then recites verses from the Quran and follows a set of movements which include bowing and prostration. Prostration or sujood, is the time when a person is closest to Allah. It is during this time that Muslims are encouraged to make the most amount of dua, or personal supplications.
Prayer is a process. I believe that is true for every Muslim whether born into the faith or one who is guided and accepts later on in life. People were created to worship Allah and it is through prayer and supplication that one can ask and receive His Mercy.
For those who may be new to Islam or interested in learning more about what prayer looks like or involves please see the video playlist below for a more in depth discussion and explanation of both the beauty of prayer as well as the necessary components for it to be accepted, inshAllah (God willing).
