Azazel - à ne pas confondre avec Azraël - est le premier porte-enseigne des légions infernales, il illustre le duel entre les forces contraires : le Christ et Satan.

Il est mentionné dans la liste des principaux démons établie par l'Église au canon 7 du concile de Braga.
