The Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute Will Help North Carolina Teachers Prepare Students for 21st Century IT Careers

Raleigh, North Carolina – May 12, 2010

The Oracle Academy, in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, CTE division and the North Carolina Community College System, will host an Oracle Academy Instructor’s Institute in North Carolina this summer.
The event will take place July 26–30, 2010 at Wake Technical Community College and is part of a commitment by Oracle and local educators to incorporate technology and 21st century skills development into the state’s curricula.
40 instructors are expected to take part in the training, helping 1,000 North Carolina students gain access to leading industry technology, IT skills development and potentially, Oracle certification.
The Oracle Academy Instructor’s Institute is an intensive professional development program that prepares faculty to teach the Oracle Academy’s technology and business curriculum. The curriculum focuses on database design and SQL programming skills.
Participating faculty complete 40 hours of online coursework before attending an in-class training event.
For the in-class training, the teachers will work face-to-face with Oracle Academy instructors to prepare to teach Oracle Academy curriculum to their students, completing a class project and passing a final exam.
The Oracle Academy curriculum aligns with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Database Programming I and II courses in the IT Career Cluster framework, as well as the North Carolina Community College Associate of Applied Science in Database Management (A25150) Degree and Database Administration Certificates.
To date, the Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute has trained more than 1,100 teachers in the United States.
The Oracle Academy currently supports over 850,000 students and teachers in 91 countries, including more than 100,000 students and teachers in the United States.
