Según la Encyclopædia Britannica la campaña militar de Abraha en Arabia sí tuvo lugar

Abraha también escrito Abreha (floreció en el siglo VI d. C.) fue un virrey cristiano etíope de Yemen en el sur de Arabia
Abraha fue virrey del principado de Saba en Yemen para los emperadores cristianos de Etiopía. Él mismo un ferviente cristiano se dice que construyó una
gran iglesia en Saná y que reparó la principal presa de riego en la capital sabea de Ma’rib
Abraha es célebre sobre todo por la expedición militar que dirigió hacia el norte contra la ciudad de La Meca en el mismo año del nacimiento de Mahoma
alrededor del 570. Aunque estaba apoyada por elefantes la expedición fracasó y los musulmanes creen que La Meca escapó a la captura solo por un milagro. El
gobierno de Abraha terminó en 575 cuando los sasánidas persas
invadieron la región y pusieron fin al reino sabeo

La enciclopedia etíope nos informa de que Abraha inició su campaña militar en Arabia en el año 547 d. C. Su derrota se debió al miedo que se apoderó de
su elefante en las proximidades de La Meca la ciudad sagrada. La escena está representada en uno de los murales de la iglesia de Dabra Salam.
