Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, Calif – October 13, 2009
News Facts

Demonstrating the superior performance and scalability leadership of Oracle Database, Oracle today announced an eight processor world-record result on the SAP® Sales and Distribution-Parallel (SD-Parallel) Standard Application Benchmark running the SAP enhancement package 4 for the SAP ERP 6.0 application (Unicode)(1).
Running the Solaris 10™ operating system on a cluster of four-node Sun Blade X6270 server module nodes, each with two Intel® Xeon® x5570 quad-core 2.93 GHz processors, Oracle Database and Oracle Real Application Clusters achieved 13,718 SAP SD-Parallel Benchmark users, outperforming by 66 percent the previous best eight processor two-tier SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark result with the SAP enhancement package 4 for SAP ERP (Unicode) held by Microsoft SQL Server(2).
This result also delivered exceptional one-, two- and four-node results on the Sun Blade X6270, demonstrating the outstanding scalability of Oracle Database and Oracle Real Application Clusters. When measured from one-, two- and four-node configurations, as documented and certified by SAP, Oracle Database with Oracle Real Application Clusters demonstrated near-linear scalabililty, achieving 3,800(3), 7,220(4) and 13,718(1) SAP SD-Parallel Benchmark users, respectively, while providing a high level of performance and availability. No other vendor has delivered results showing this level of performance or scalability on the Intel® Xeon® x5570 platform.
Additionally, the single-node result with Oracle Real Application Clusters delivers more performance-per-processor and per-core on the SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark running SAP enhancement package 4 for SAP ERP 6.0 (Unicode) and outperforms the best SAP SD two-tier results from IBM DB2(5) and Microsoft SQL Server(6) with this benchmark result, utilizing the same number of cores.
