    A new report suggests it might be a good idea to teach Arabic as a language in schools alongside French and German.
    It says it would help Muslim children fit in better at school and teach other kids about Arabic-speaking groups.

    But what do you think about this?

    Should Arabic be taught in schools?

    بصراحة الموقع وهو معروف البي بي سي، عندما قرأت ما كتب عن الإسلام أعجبت به صراحة

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/ne...00/4188287.stm

    وإليكم ما قاله:
    ============================================================ =========================
    What is Islam?

    Islam is the second largest religion in Britain and the world.
    More than one billion people follow Islam and it is the fastest growing religion.

    Followers of Islam are called Muslims.

    Islam is over 1,400 years old, dating back to the 7th Century. It began in Arabia.

    The Arabic word for God is Allah.

    The word "Islam" means submission to God's will and obedience to God's law. It comes from an old Arabic word meaning "peace."
    ============================================================ =========================
    What is the Qur'an?

    The Qur'an (or Koran) is the holy scripture for Muslims.
    They believe it to be God's words, spoken to the Angel Gabriel and passed on to the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
    There is only one version of the Qur'an and it was written in Arabic.

    Muslims believe that it has not changed at all since it was first written.

    The books of Hadith are said to be the narrations and actions of Muhammad, guiding Muslims on how to put the Qur'an into practice.
    ============================================================ =========================
    The five pillars of Islam

    Muslims believe that every single thing you do in life should be done for God.
    They believe in Heaven and Hell and that when you die you face a Day of Judgement.

    There are five pillars of Islam. These are duties that a Muslim aims to fulfil;

    1. Shahadah (Witnessing) - Muslims declare their faith by saying: "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His messenger".

    2. Salat (Prayer) - God set five times in the day when Muslims should pray.

    Muslims can pray anywhere, but they always pray facing Mecca, in Saudi Arabia. Muslims also pray in mosques.

    3. Zakat (Charity)- Muslims give 2.5% of their wealth to charity.

    This shows obedience to God and prevents greed.

    It is believed that in giving, the possesions you keep are made pure.

    4.Sawm (The Fast) - during the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims are expected to fast from dawn to sunset. This means not eating or drinking anything at all.

    One of the reasons Muslims fast is because they believe that Ramadan is the time when the Holy Qur'an was first revealed.

    5. Hajj (Pilgrimage)

    Hajj is the journey to a place called Mecca in Saudi Arabia. All Muslims should make this pilgrimage at least once in their life, if they can afford it and are physically able.

    There are lots of rituals to perform along the journey, including drinking water from the Zam Zam well and throwing stones at the pillars of Jamraat.

    The final part of the pilgrimage is at the Kaaba (cube) in the centre of the Great Mosque in Mecca. The Kaaba is important because it is a shrine that Abraham built for God.
    ============================================================ =========================
    Who is Muhammad?

    Muhammad was born in the year 570 and Muslims believe that he was God's last prophet.He was a human being like the other prophets (Adam - the first prophet, Noah, Moses, Abraham, Jesus etc)
    He got married to a woman called Khadija when he was 25.

    Muslims believe that in the year 610 he had a vision from the Archangel Gabriel who told him he was to be one of God's prophets.

    In 623 he made a pilgrimage to Mecca with 100,000 followers. He died a few months later, aged 63.

    Muslims do not worship him because Muslims only worship Allah.

    However, part of the Muslim faith is to emulate Muhammad and how he lived his life. This is why some Muslim men grow beards.

    When they write or say his name, Muslims often follow it with "Peace be upon Him."
    ============================================================ =========================
    How do Muslims view other religions?

    The Qur'an describes Christians and Jews as members of the family of Abraham (one of the prophets) and Muslims respect these religions because they believe that they all worship the same God.
    Muslims do not believe that Jesus was the Son of God, but that he was one of God's prophets, just like Muhammad.

    Muslims believe in many of the stories about Jesus that the Christians believe in.

    For example, they believe in the virgin birth and that Jesus will come again.

    In fact, Jesus is regarded within Islam as a special prophet. His name is in the Qur'an 25 times - more times than Muhammad's.

    Muslims believe that the Qur'an is God's most recent words and is his final message.

    ============================================================ =========================
    Why do some Muslims cover up?

    The Qur'an says that Muslims should lower their gaze and dress modestly.
    It says that women should cover their chest and their figure when they go out.

    Men too should not wear figure hugging clothes and should be modest. They are not supposed to wear silk or gold either.

    Other than that, Muslims can choose how to dress.

    There is a wide variety of Muslim clothing and what Muslims wear often depends on what country they live in.

    In some countries it is traditional to cover up completely.

    Other countries follow other traditions and Muslims might not be expected to dress in any particular way.
    ============================================================ =========================
    What can and can't Muslims eat?

    The Qur'an tells Muslims not to eat pork, drink wine, gamble or do anything that will damage their health.
    For these reasons alcohol is illegal in some Islamic countries.

    Muslims eat meat that is "Halal."

    This means that the animal was killed in a particular way and that a prayer was said when the animal was killed.

    Some Muslims also eat Kosher meat (this is Jewish meat).

    During Ramadan Muslims do not eat or drink during the daylight hours.
    ============================================================ =========================
    Do Muslims all have the same beliefs?

    Muslims believe in something called "Ummah" which means "one community" .
    That means that they see other Muslims as part of their family.

    However, just like there are Protestants and Catholics within Christianity, there are different groups of Muslims such as the Sunnis and Shi'ites.

    The differences within Islam first began in the 7th Century when the Prophet Muhammad died. There were disagreements as to who should lead the Muslim community.

    Some Muslims wanted Muhammad's son in law, Ali, to succeed Muhammad. This group are what we now know as Shia.

    Those who wanted a friend of Muhammad's (called Abu Bakr) to succeed Muhammad are known as Sunni.

    Sunnis and Shi'tes have different versions of the Hadith (the book of Mohammad's sayings.) In turn, this means they have a slightly different understanding of Islam.

    Overall, Islam is a diverse religion and there are different interpretations of the Qur'an.
    ============================================================ =========================
    Festivals

    The two main religious festivals in the Islamic calendar are:
    Eid-ul-Fitr

    This festival marks the end of Ramadan (the fasting period).

    Families get together for a feast and often children receive money or gifts.

    It is a big celebration and a public holiday in Muslim countries.

    Eid-ul-Adha

    This festival marks the end of Hajj.

    Muslims also believe that the Prophet Abraham (one of God's messengers) was going to sacrifice his son because that is what Allah had told him to do.

    This was a test to see Abraham's obedience and Allah told him to slaughter a goat instead.

    Often Muslims slaughter animals to remember this sacrifice.
    ============================================================ =========================
    Muslims in Britain

    More than 1.6 million Muslims live in Britain.
    The first Muslims to settle in the UK were the Yeminis in 1641. Britain's first Mosque opened in Cardiff, in 1860.

    Between 1940-1960 many Muslims moved to Britain from places such as East Africa and South Asia. This period has been described as a "golden era" of Muslim migration.

    Many British people were leaving to

    live abroad. This, and the British deaths during the Second World War caused a labour shortage in Britain.

    This means that there weren't enough people to perform jobs, so the government encouraged new people to move into Britain.

    Other Muslims came to Britain because they could get jobs and send their money back to their family. When their pounds were exchanged to local currency, it would work out as much more money.

    Some immigrants planned only to stay for a while, but ended up staying permanently.

    In 1947, British rule ended in India. At this time, sections of India were divided up, creating Pakistan. There was on-going fighting after this partition and some people came to Britain.

    Some other Muslims had to leave their country of origin to escape political persecution.

    For example, in 1972 a leader in Uganda called Idi Amin ordered all Asians (without citizenship in Uganda) to leave the country. This meant that 60,000 Muslims were forced to find a new country to live in.

    جزاكم الله خيرًا وبارك فيكم...

    والله أنا لم أفعل شيئًا يذكر، وكما يقول الرسول - صلى الله عليه وسلم - : من لم يهتم بأمر المسلمين فليس منهم. أو كما قال صلوات ربي وسلامه عليه.
    وبالفعل أنا لم أفعل شيئًا يذكر، ماذا تساوي دقائق معدودة نشرت فيها الإعلان وصوّتت أمام من يضحي بنفسه وروحه في سبيل الله؟! والله إن الواحد ليخجل أن يكون هذا هو كل ما قدمه ويقدمه للإسلام.

    يحضرني حديث الرسول - صلى الله عليه وسلم - حينما قال: (( عرض علي الناس في المنام البارحة وعليهم قمص، منها ما يبلغ الثدي، ومنها ما دون ذلك، وعرض علي عمر بن الخطاب وعليه قميص يجره، قالوا: ما أولت ذلك يا رسول الله؟ قال: الدين)).

    يا ترى ماذا سيكون موقفي بين يدي المولى - عز وجل - وأنا لم أقدم لديني وللإسلام حقه.
    يا ترى هل سيوفقني الله لأقدم ولو جزء بسيط مما قدمه عمر بن الخطاب - رضي الله عنه - للإسلام

    الله المستعان..
