Detsky Mir Goes Live with Oracle® Retail Applications to Support Strategic Growth

Russia’s Largest Children’s Retailer Using Oracle Retail Release 13 to Create a Best-in-Class Business Model

NRF 99th ANNUAL CONVENTION & EXPO, NEW YORK – January 11, 2010
News Facts

The Detsky Mir Group, Russia’s largest retailer in children’s goods, has implemented Oracle® Retail applications to create a core retail platform that supports its strategic growth plans for long-term expansion.
Detsky Mir Group is the region’s leading holding company focused on children and teenagers. The Group‘s portfolio includes Detsky Mir stores, Yakimanka Children's Gallery luxury goods centre and leading Russian distributor of children’s goods, the C-Toys company. The Detsky Mir chain includes 126 branded super and mega stores in 65 Russian cities.
Detsky Mir’s rapid expansion over the last few years revealed management’s need to more effectively support its mature, complex business and the Oracle applications offered the scalability, integration and best practice to best meet its requirements.
The retailer chose to adopt a centralized business model and has deployed a single instance of Oracle Retail Merchandising System and Oracle Retail Price Management as it continues with its strategic goal to build the largest nationwide children’s goods retail chain.
Detsky Mir is using Oracle Retail applications to create a consolidated view of inventory. This is helping to improve product lifecycle management, to drive more accurate pricing strategies and support enhancements to the processes around placement, tracking and execution of orders.
The deployment of common merchandising processes throughout its business has helped Detsky Mir to see value from KPI improvements, which is helping to increase service levels and create economies of scale.
Detsky Mir chose a vanilla implementation of the Oracle Retail Release 13 applications to rapidly deploy best practice throughout its sophisticated business to help deliver value in line with business strategy.

“Oracle Retail is a key element in building an efficient retail business model and is a powerful resource in providing long-term competitive advantage,” explained Maxim Entyakov, Head of Detsky Mir Group. “We expect it, for example, to help us reduce delivery times by at least 10 percent, improve availability of goods by 15 to 20 percent and improve performance per square meter of floor space by 10 to 20 percent. Without the visibility provided by the Oracle Retail system, it would be impossible to further implement our development program introducing standard regulations to performance and operations across our store network and manage these around the complexities of several time zones."
“Our implementation of Oracle Retail has helped us to create the common operational platform that we identified as crucial to our successful expansion. With a centralized business model in place, we are now in a position to move towards operational excellence and we are working closely with Oracle to achieve this next step,” said Sergey Rogov, CIO, Detsky Mir.
“Oracle values the strategic nature of the productive and long-term relationships it holds with smart and forward-thinking retailers like Detsky Mir,” said Duncan Angove, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Retail. “Detsky Mir recognizes how that the deployment of best-in-class technology, combined with their deep knowledge of their industry can help to achieve strategic expansion goals.”
