HealthSouth Upgrades to Oracle® Database 11g and Oracle Real Application Clusters

HealthSouth Improves Quality of Service for Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise Applications

Redwood Shores, CA - April 12, 2010
News Facts

HealthSouth Corporation (NYSE: HLS), the nation's largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services, has improved the availability and performance of its Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise applications and Enterprise Data Warehouse using Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle announced today.
HealthSouth recently upgraded its Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise applications and enterprise data warehouse in order to:
Automate financial, budgeting and HR processes;
Accelerate monthly reporting along with annual budgeting and planning;
Consolidate reporting from financial, HR and patient billing systems; and,
Deliver highly available and fault tolerant service.
Improved Application Availability and Performance Companywide

Operating in 26 U.S. states and in Puerto Rico, HealthSouth serves more than 250,000 patients annually through its network of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, long-term acute care hospitals, outpatient rehabilitation satellites, and home health agencies.
For visibility into key financial and operational metrics, HealthSouth’s Oracle data warehouse captures, transforms and summarizes data from PeopleSoft Enterprise Financial Management 8.9, PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Capital Management 8.9, and other applications.
To meet user performance and availability expectations, HealthSouth implemented their data warehouse on a five-node cluster using Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Real Application Clusters.
Oracle Advanced Compression and Oracle Partitioning are key to HealthSouth’s data lifecycle management practices and to utilizing storage systems more efficiently. Using compression on both partitioned as well as non-partitioned tables in its data warehouse, HealthSouth has seen a 4X storage reduction without any cost to performance.
The data warehouse feeds data to Oracle Essbase for financial analysis and reporting. Oracle Hyperion Planning and Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning are also in production at HealthSouth.
HealthSouth‘s database administration team relies on Oracle Enterprise Manager for managing their Oracle systems. This includes using Automatic Storage Management to manage all database storage.
HealthSouth has recently upgraded to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 underneath PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Capital Management.
